Camp Mograph 2024 - Title Sequence
Opening titles set the contract with an audience before a single line of dialogue lands. Filed here: main titles, end-credit sequences, and cold-open cards from film, streaming, and broadcast. What strikes me about the best ones is how much they leave out. Kyle Cooper's Se7en titles get cited constantly, but the lesson isn't the scratched film grain, it's the pacing and the type. Expect notes on hierarchy under motion blur, kerning that survives a 24fps pan, and why a two-second hold usually beats a clever transition. Designers who build interfaces should read this section closely. Title work is where timing discipline gets taught properly, and a sequence that has to land its mood in eight seconds has no room for the padding a product page tolerates.
