The pace of China's design scene is hard to overstate. A generation of motion designers and art directors has grown up alongside one of the fastest-moving product and mobile markets anywhere, and the craft has caught up quickly. What you'll find in this list is fluency with dense, information-rich interfaces, festival and e-commerce campaign work, and 3D that keeps getting more ambitious. There's a distinct visual sensibility forming, one that borrows less from the West each year. These are designers used to enormous scale and short turnarounds, and it shows in how efficiently they build.
Shanghai and Shenzhen carry most of the commercial weight, largely because that's where the big platform companies (Alibaba, Tencent, ByteDance) run their in-house design teams, but Beijing still pulls in the more editorial and art-directed work tied to film and broadcast. Singles' Day and other shopping festivals have turned into a strange annual proving ground: designers have to produce huge volumes of campaign motion and interface work on compressed timelines, and that pressure has made speed a genuine specialty rather than a compromise. Mobile-first thinking runs deeper here than almost anywhere else on this list, since so much of the market skipped desktop entirely. Expect dense information hierarchies, bold red and gold campaign palettes tied to festival season, and 3D renders that lean maximalist rather than restrained.
